The Super Mario Run is a free-to-download game in the App Store. You can play the first three levels of World 1 as well as 20 seconds of the boss level for free.
In order to unlock the rest of the game, you need to purchase it for $9.99. But I can assure you, the game is worth every penny. Just a few seconds in and you’ll be addicted!
Gameplay
Super Mario Run on iPhone can be played in three modes of gameplay: World Tour, Toad Rally, and kingdom building. Each level unlocks the others, making you want to play even more. It’s addicting!
You will find that Super Mario Run is not the same as the games that we are used to. This game can be compared to endless-running game apps.
Basic Moves
Almost all people are familiar with the Super Mario games. But is the Super Mario Run on iPhone played the same? What are the moves in order to surpass each level?

1. Mario’s Automatic Jumps
Just so you know, Mario runs automatically. You do not have to manually direct Mario to go forward or backward. Also, Mario automatically jumps on some obstacles like blocks, small gaps on his path, and low Warp Pipes.
Although Mario can mostly jump automatically, he can still get injured and die. When you are able to get the Mushroom power-up, you will double in size, and it also serves as protection.
Whenever you get hit by your enemy, Mario does not die automatically. Instead, he will shrink back to his small size and continue running.
2. Bubble Saves

And even if Mario is in his small size, he doesn’t automatically die when hit by an enemy. Mario gets captured in a bubble where he will slowly be brought to the very beginning of the game.
Simply tap the screen anytime if you don’t want to start from the beginning. Or tap the screen right after Mario gets captured by the bubble to continue right where you left off.
Remember: you only get three bubble saves before it’s Game Over for Mario.
3. How To Make Mario Jump Manually
Just because Mario automatically runs and occasionally jumps doesn’t mean that you do not have to do anything at all. Of course, Mario can’t jump too high or evade bigger enemies without your help.

Mario’s high-jump is still needed when you want to crush enemies or reach blocks or coins high up in the air.
To jump: Tap the screen
To jump high: Press and hold the screen
Reverse-jump off the wall: Tap the screen every time Mario is about to hit the wall
Spin mid-air: Press and hold the screen, then tap again when Mario is mid-air
Basically, the main moves are just tapping your screen. Sounds easy, right? Well, yes and no. The controls may be easy, but the game still proves to be difficult enough to keep you interested.
While running, get as many coins as you can. Jump on blocks as well to get surprising rewards.
You will be timed in each level. So, you better come up with a strategy that can get Mario out fast and still get plenty of coins.
Also, even if you are saved by the bubble, the timer does not restart.
Challenge Coins

The Super Mario Run on iPhone is not your typical run and jump kind of game. What is a game without a challenge?
Challenge Coins are in colors pink and purple and can be found throughout the levels of Super Mario Run. But don’t let these coins trick you. These coins are much harder to get.
They are placed in spots where you will need more than just a single jump in order to reach it. It could be placed super high to where you need to jump on a Goomba’s head in order to reach a platform and grab it.
After getting all the pink coins, you will unlock the purple coins which are as equally as hard to get. So, the question is, are you up for the challenge?
Games Modes
1. World Tour

The main gameplay of Super Mario Run is World Tour, where the player is tasked to complete all 24 levels in order to rescue Princess Peach. She invited Mario for a cake after King Bowser destroyed her castle.
Each level features different challenges and varies in the level of difficulty as well. The player will run through each level in which he will face enemies that he needs to surpass in order to reach the flagpole at the very end of the level.
In World Tour, you will also come across the Challenge Coins. First, you have to collect all pink coins in order to unlock the next color of the Challenge Coins.
You can be assured that these coins will be placed in challenging locations.
2. Toad Rally

In Toad Rally, players are to compete against ghosts of other players through a one-minute run in a random level. The objective of the game is simple: get more coins and Toads than your opponent.
Here, you can put your tricks to good use. Toads are essentially attracted to certain tricks and jumps like high jump, vaulting jump, spin jump and many more.
Every time you do these tricks and collect pink coins, you will fill up a meter that can be seen on the top right of your iPhone screen. When the meter fills up, you will enter a Coin Rush.
Now, here’s the fun part! In Coin Rush, objects will dispense more coins than usual. That’s a sure way of beating your opponents!
After each round, both players’ number of coins and Toads and totaled. Whoever gets the most, wins, resulting in getting the Toads of the losing player.
3. Kingdom Building

All the coins you have collected in Super Mario Run will now be put into good use in Kingdom Building. You can use these coins to build structures and buy decorations in the Mushroom Kingdom, customizing it to your liking.
You’ll have to entice Toads first in your kingdom to be able to add items. One way to do this is to play Toad Rally and impress the Toads with your moves.
But you have to remember that if you lose a round in Toad Rally, you lose the Toads that you already have.
You can add decorations in the patches of grass and land. However, buildings and other special objects can only be placed on certain plots of dirt.
You will only have a section of the kingdom to put objects on in the very beginning. But as you win more Toads in Toad Rally, you will be able to unlock other parts of the kingdom that you can eventually customize as well.
Can Super Mario Run Be Played On A Controller?

Although Super Mario Run on iPhone is a challenging game, it doesn’t involve many moves. As already mentioned, you only have to tap the screen like an endless-run game.
Seeing that there’s not much to do for this game, I don’t think you will be needing a controller. The buttons on the controller might just confuse you anyway.
Nintendo has yet to announce if there are going to be MFI controllers that would be compatible with Super Mario Run on iPhone. Perhaps you are feeling adventurous, you can try out a controller for yourself.
Don’t forget to share whether it has worked or not!
